Take your first step towards a better relationship between you and your dog with me, Ian Cooper, dog behaviourist and master dog trainer.
I specialise in the rehabilitation of dogs with issues such as:
The best way to for me to help you with your dog’s behaviour is for me to meet you in person. Depending on the situation, I’ll travel to you – or you can visit us in North Devon.
I only need to see you once as I will provide you with the tools you need to continue to work independently.
A session with lasts approximately two hours and included is:
Guaranteed results or no session charge
Before setting up a training session it is best that we first understand the behaviours that you are seeing with your dog(s).
Whilst we decide the best approach, all contact is free including any time spent on the phone – no matter how long.
You may not feel it is the right time to meet in person, so I have an alternative, and that is video. My dog training videos have proven to be an excellent way to teach people the skills they need to overcome the behaviours that they are seeing. They’re not intended to replace my work as a dog behaviourist, especially where the dog in question has problems that seem almost impossible to overcome. But they may be a valuable first step to making the relationship between you and your dog better and to tackle some of the more commonly seen behaviours.
If you want help with issues such as heeling, recall or introduction to other dogs then purchasing our comprehensive videos may be the answer. Previews for each video are available for you to watch now.
As a dog behaviourist, understanding how dogs work as part of a pack is the basis of being able to channel their behaviours into working relationships with their owners. Nothing gives me greater joy than to end a training session knowing that I have helped an owner and their dog bond more closely and deepened their understanding of each other.
Using a combination of transferred horse whispering techniques and an understanding of wolf pack behaviours I do my level best to communicate with dogs in the way they do with each other.
I then explain these techniques to the owner as I teach them how to communicate with their dogs in the language the dogs will understand. This will always improve or resolve the behaviour because the owner is then speaking the dog’s language and they will know how to respond. My methods are neither treat based nor harsh.
I travel across the UK to help owners overcome a range of issues and create the relationship with their dogs that they really want.
If you are experiencing issues with your dog, I am happy to work with you during a session in North Devon or at your location.
I have helped people select rescue dogs and puppies literally hundreds of times, to help find the right fit for them.
For more challenging issues, I offer residential kennelling and dog rehabilitation in North Devon.
I have worked with gundogs since a boy. I can assess whether your dog can be trained and help you with a new, partly or previously trained dog.

Totally incredible, we have a Cavapoo with issues with him nipping people when they leave and separation anxiety. Ian’s advice is simple clear and works within minutes. He’s a real life dog whisperer! It’s down to us now to carry on with the methods that Ian showed us. Thank you so much and I can’t recommend him highly enough.Posted on Google Dee EastlakeTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I will be practising everything we were taught each day until I feel confident enough to take Teddy into a busy environment. I certainly recommend Ian's methods to anyone who needs help with their dogs. Ian's lesson also gives insight into how a dog's brain works. My partner and I found the session most enjoyable. Thank you Ian.Posted on Google Casey WestTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. My partner and I really took a shine to Ian. His methods of training were amazing. Our training session with Ian and our 2 dogs was such an eye opener, Ian totally understands dogs and our dogs behaviour really made sense during conversations with him. Both of our dogs were walking to heel within 10 minutes and Ian has also given us more confidence with off lead recall. So glad to have stumbled across him while searching for a dog trainer in Devon and we highly recommend him.Posted on Google sara priceTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We travelled from Derbyshire to see Ian to help with our cocker spaniel’s persistent barking. All the info and communication was clear and timely leading up to the session and Ian also suggested us bringing our other dog so he could see how the two behaved together. Ian is friendly, knowledgeable and explains his ethos clearly. He was very happy to run through handling multiple challenging scenarios and the results during the session were amazing. We felt calmer and so did the dogs; we left with the confidence to take his strategies forward and get back to enjoying our dogs. The aftercare is also in place for when we hit the inevitable hiccups but I’m looking forward to getting started. So glad we made the trip. Thankyou Ian and Claire.Posted on Google Alana SumnerTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Ian's extensive knowledge of canine behaviour, from lived experience, is absolutely fascinating and I would urge anyone looking for informed, calm, logical, practical advice and guidance to contact him! Our training was at home and in our garden. From the moment Ian stepped into our house the training started. Billy (1 year old Golden Retriever) is beginning to show signs of improved .... everything! Highly recommend.Posted on Google Stephen SalterTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. What a revelation Ian Cooper is in his specialist role as a Dog Behaviourist! Having witnessed two dogs we love locked in fierce combat after living peacefully together for four years, suddenly being unable to stand even the sight of each other, we had reached a low point. Our confidence was shaken and we could not see any way forward other than to totally separate them for living, exercise, training, indeed everything. Anybody connected to dogs will recognise how upsetting, stressful and inconvenient this would be. After a two hour session with Ian our confidence started to rebuild and we had a strategy in place to improve the situation. It's entirely fair to say that this would not have happened without Ian's guidance and offer of ongoing support. Of course we have a long way to go, and a lot of patience and persistence will be required, but now we have hope, which we were sorely lacking before our meeting with Ian, and a positive way forward. We thoroughly recommend Ian and his undeniable gift to anybody who needs help with their canine companions.Verified by TrustindexTrustindex verified badge is the Universal Symbol of Trust.
